Unreal Engine 5 Collision Essentials: Understanding Unreal Engine’s Collision Framework

Unreal Engine’s collision framework is a source of confusion for even the most experienced developers. Improper use of collision settings can lead to bugs and less-than-optimal performance for your games. Often when developers configure the collision settings for their assets and queries, the process consists of fumbling through the settings until things start to work. Teams lack a clear understanding of the proper use of collision channels, collision responses, and collision profiles and presets. In this book, the fundamentals of the Unreal Engine collision framework are laid out clearly and concisely, demystifying the way collision is handled by the engine. After reading this book, you will know exactly how the engine handles your collision data. You will know whether your components register collisions by the physics or query system, whether hit and overlap callbacks are being executed, whether collision filtering is performed optimally, whether your components are generating sweep data, and more. Proper configuration of your collision settings is one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve the performance of your Unreal Engine game projects. Neglecting to properly understand the collision framework results in habits that can tank performance, manifest as subtle bugs, and generate confusion in the team and a foster a lack of proper conventions. Let this book serve as a guide for years to come, and be a useful resource on your bookshelf. – ASIN: B0D5HDJ419 | ISBN13: 9798326953780 | ISBN-13: 979-8326953780
